Advanced Bodywork for Innerstrength is not just a slogan, it is a philosophy borne of 38 years of practical experience. It is a very intimate understanding of sensitive balance between body, mind, and spirit. (Sounds cliche', I know) But everything about Life is about balance.
We, as human beings, are a living, breathing, walking, and talking chemistry experiment. Patients cannot be adequately treated without understanding this. There must understanding of how muscles and nerves function independently and in conjunction with one another.
Then there is the engineering factor. The physics of movement is one of the most important aspects of bodywork. If one understands how motion affects the body, one can effectively treat the patient. This is not just about movements of the body but also the physics of the world revolving around the patient.
Next, the balance of muscle and structure must be considered. Which muscles are normally used for movement and which are used for posture? Now consider if one or several of those muscles switch roles due to an injury. This relationship between muscle and structure is commonly referred to as the kinetic chain.
Now the emotions of the patient come into the treatment protocol. What kind of day did they have? What is their general emotional state? What is their personality type? Do they like their job? Are they happy in life? How did the injury occur? How much kinetic energy did their body absorb? How much of that energy are they still holding on to? (Physics again)
What do the physical things have to do with emotion? They are stressors to the body and the human body cannot tell the difference between physical, mental or emotional stress. So in short, stress is stress and it has a cumulative effect on the body and the mind.
The spiritual aspect, at least for me, lies within the treatment room itself, wherever it may be. This space is Sacred! The patient must feel safe within this room. When an emotional release occurs, they must be free to experience the release in a sanctuary- like environment.
Now, combine all of the above with a touch that is so adept that as little ten ounces of pressure can reach to the depth of the femur (thigh bone). A touch so subtle that feels virtually like nothing is occurring until client movement tests the treated body part and realizes the all of the pain and tension has disappeared.
Finally, add in a disarming sense of humor and a personality that has the effect of a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold Ohio night and you have the basic premise of Advanced Bodywork for Innerstrength.
